Why help?

I am sure many people come across our site and think 'Why do they bother?' or 'Why do they care? They are only students!' Well I am here to let you know why we care, why we love this cause so much and why we are truly passionate about what we do.

The Facts
  1. One out of two children between the ages of 6 and 14 has no access to primary education
  2. Out of 27 million children born in India every year, 2 million do not survive to celebrate their first birthday.
  3. More than 56% pf households do not have electricity connections in India
  4. There are over 25 million orphans in India.
  5. 5,000 children under the age of 5 die every day in India due to preventable causes.
  6. Over 59 million children in India have no access to school.
Now you have seen the facts above, let me explain more.

We hate these statistics / facts and believe they honestly need to be changed and quickly! We believe they deserve the same level of respect and the same fulfilled life that we can have here in the UK. Why should they feel suicide is the only way out? Why should children be losing their parents, friends and family members because we can't treat them with the respect every human should have? We need to give them respect, give them the money they need to live and help them feel better about themselvesWe are extremely lucky with what we get here in the UK and we need to recognise this.

Pants to Poverty support this in the following ways:

1.     Buying our cotton directly from the villages.

2.     Supporting and funding farmer owned seed development work and establishment of seed banks.

3.     Funding the educational materials in the local schools

4.     Funding the establishment of internet connections between the local schools and teacher mentors in the UK.

5.     Assisting with linking Chetna and their farmers up with buyers.
