Thank you from Pants 4 Asia

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who liked the Pants4Asia Facebook page, followed us on Twitter and watched our Youtube videos. We saw the judges today (a little like Dragon's den) and we pitched our Business plan, told them why we love the charity so much and how we will be helping the children, farmers and factory workers in India. We believe in this charity so much and it has honestly touched our hearts. We want to help the charity so much and can't wait to help out.

We came first out of the 6 groups today and we worked so well as a team. I have to say I am so proud of us and I think it came across that we are truly and honestly so passionate about giving to India. We got these awesome books 'Welcome to the Entrepreneur country' which I am so excited about getting to read and a box of chocolates that we shared. We then told our tutors, they are so proud of us too. We will be selling briefs, boxers, pants, knickers, vests, pyjamas and so on. They are for men and women and I'd love if some of you guys could buy some of the items. I'll have an Ebay account and maybe Amazon selling these items. We will be starting after Easter so make sure you keep checking out our official blog, Facebook, Youtube & Twitter

Here are some of the items we will be selling.

Hard at work...

I am currently putting together our power point ready for our meeting on Wednesday. I had to blur the text as you can't see it until we have had the meeting Wednesday. Of course this isn't all of our power point, just the main points the rest will be spoken. I am so excited and can't wait to tell the panel of judges how much this charity honestly means to us. We are now so passionate about something we wouldn't have even thought about two months ago. I am so thankful to everyone who has been helping us go forwards with this.

Think before you buy

Thousands of Indian cotton farmers kill themselves each year because of the clothes you wear!
India is an agrarian country with around 60% of its people depending directly or indirectly upon agriculture. (The science or practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide) and farmer suicides in India have been making headlines since the mid 1990s. With £1 = 80.85 rupees and the farmers earning on average 100 rupees a day (£1.24 a day) you can see how they are struggling to make ends meet and to make things worse it costs 950 rupees (£11.79) for a kilogram bag of seed!

Some facts:
  • More than 17,000 Indian farmers committed suicide in 2009, a seven percent rise on the previous year, according to new government figures.
  •  The Fairtrade Minimum Price for seed cotton from India is $0.46/kg for organic and $0.38/kg for conventional
  •  Now for the first time suicides by farmers, including those in 2011 and 2012, have been definitively linked to the declining performance of the GM cotton. - Read more.
  • It is the low prices for cotton and high prices for chemicals have caused tens of thousands of farmers to go bankrupt.
  • Thousands of Indian farmers sold their kidneys into the world organ market to pay their pesticide and fertilizer bill to Monsanto, Cargill or multinational banks.

A little more about us

I would very much appreciate if you could LIKE our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. I have found myself not even thinking about the project anymore, this cause has really touched my heart and pulled at my heartstrings. I want the suicide rate to fall from 7 a day to none a year. HELP US help these farmers who helped make the clothes you are sitting in while you read this post!
We will be uploading videos on Youtube very soon. Make sure you help out by liking the page and youtube account!

Did you know that more than 17,500 farmers a year killed themselves between 2002 and 2006 and the total number of farmers who have taken their own lives in Maharashtra since 1995 is closing in on 54,000?! That is outrageous! With each pair of knickers or pyjamas we sell can save someone's live and help change it for the better. They are killing themselves because they are in so much debt, they are unable to make a living from their land so they feel they have no alternative. They are losing the will to live and we can be that reason, the reason they smile each day knowing things will get better. Help keep things fair, fair trade. The East India Company promoted the unjust cotton trade system that fuelled Gandhi's uprise in India!

About Us

We are a social enterprise group made up of 4 travel and tourism students from London, England who have a thirst for knowledge and want to gain awareness for the cotton farmers and factory workers in India. We want people to think Asia, think different. 'A social enterprise is an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being, rather than maximising profits for external shareholders.' It did start of as just a patrepreneurship project with our college but each day we get more and more invested in this charity and it has honestly pulled on our heartstrings. We know as students and even as adults we normally only think about ourselves or our own country but when you really look into it we are extremely lucky with what we get here in the UK.

Primarily we are aiming to gain as much awareness as physically possible. We will be doing this via social platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and of course this website. We want to encourage people to give to charity and help out these people to truly need it.

As a team we will be selling pants/briefs and pyjamas for pants to poverty to earn money for farmers and factory workers in India allowing them to live a fulfilled life. (which they deserve)
